Flight School: A Workshop for Arm-Balances and Inversions
with Josh Mathew-Meier
at the NYC Studio
Saturday June 14th 2025
1:00 - 3:00 PM ET
How often in class are you offered inversion time and feel unsure of how to proceed? How frequently is an arm balance tossed into the flow and your body isn't quite prepared to levitate? In this workshop, we'll begin with the foundations of caturanga (the base shape for virtually all weight-bearing postures) and use that information to gradually expand our understanding of how to balance on our hands and get our legs up in the air!
The programming will include a discussion on the connected anatomy of the shoulder girdle and core, a warming flow to prepare the body for exploration, and plenty of time to practice multiple forms of levitation (while keeping a grounded connection, of course!)
While some exposure to asana practice is beneficial, this program is designed to support anyone who
- is looking to enrich their understanding of structural anatomy
- is seeking the ability to deepen push/pull mechanics that support weight-bearing
- is wanting to face their fears of falling and build strength so they don't
- is inspired to fly!!
