200-Hour Teacher Training FAQs

Questions are abundant when embarking on a teacher training program – we get it! Director of Teacher Training Andrea Lodico spends time each year chatting with prospective teacher trainees – check out the answers below to some of the most frequently asked questions about TYC’s 200-Hour Teacher Training this fall!

What if I'm not sure if I want to teach -- can I still apply?

Yes! We always have a few students who join the teacher training knowing they want to teach, but the majority of our TTs love yoga and are simply interested in deepening their practice. So wherever you are in your yoga journey is just fine. :)

Do I need to be able to do a handstand?

Absolutely not! The physical practice is just one component of yoga and a handstand practice is not required. We simply require curiosity, openness, and dedication.

Tell me about the retreat!

The retreat in the Catskills is a highlight of TYC’s training and is one of the things that makes our program SO special. The retreat provides space and time to immerse yourself in the program with shared practice in Lifebridge Sanctuary's dazzling space, delicious vegetarian meals, and time to soak in the surroundings.

Can I navigate teacher training while working full time?

Yes! Our training is structured to welcome folks who are juggling work, families, and other commitments. The program runs for three months from September-December 2025 with sessions in the studio on Saturdays and Sundays from 1pm-7pm and our long weekend retreat. The program’s rhythm offers immersive practice with weekends off each month to provide space to tend to life.

How much time outside of training sessions will I need to devote to the program?

In addition to our time in the studio, you’ll have assignments to enrich your learning and practice – creative assignments, readings, podcasts, journal prompts, and study buddy meetings. You can anticipate about 4-6 hours/week devoted to training activity outside of the studio, but it varies from person to person depending on your learning style.

What does a typical teacher training session look like?

Our in-studio sessions run from 1pm-7pm. During the sessions, you can expect to move through a 75-90 minute practice, followed by a workshop style format that is a mix of lecture, discussion, embodied exploration, and practice teaching.

Will I feel confident teaching after the completion of the program?

Yes! TYC’s 200-Hour Teacher Training offers you a strong foundation in asana, philosophy, anatomy, meditation, subtle body, pranayama, sequencing, inclusive and accessible teaching approaches – all to help you build the skills to confidently teach. All of our trainees teach a 60-minute open level class as a part of the final certification requirements.

What happens after I graduate?

Following certification, you'll join our amazing community of TT graduates! Our graduates have the opportunity to teach our weekly Community Classes. Community Classes are a great way to gain teaching experience and to stay connected to the larger studio community. Annual audition notices are shared with our graduates for those interested in teaching at TYC!
